Tim Winton – Patron

Tim Winton was born in Perth in 1960. His nineteen books for adults and children have been published to acclaim at home and abroad. Three time winner of the Miles Franklin award and twice shortlisted for the Booker Prize, his work is both critically admired and loved by readers. His works are characterized by a passion for local places and ordinary people but have been translated into more than a dozen languages and adapted for stage, radio and film. In 1998 he was declared a living treasure by the National Trust. Tim is widely known for his passion for protecting the environment and lives in Western Australia with his wife and three children.

Tim was attracted to the cane toad issue by Russell Gueho’s passion and seminal work on the likely impacts of toads on WA. Together with Russell, Chris Tallentire (CCWA) and Dr Andrew Storey (all now STTF board members) Tim was invited to, and spoke at, the Kununurra Cane Toad Forum in March 2005. With the assistance of Robert Edel (now STTF Chair) this group successfully brought the matter to the serious attention of the Government. The STTF was established in October that year with a charter to conduct on-ground operations and foster community interest in the issue.
