DR ANDREW STOREY - UNIVERSITY OF WA

Dr Andrew Storey is currently an Adjunct Senior Lecturer at The
University of Western Australia and Principal Consultant with Wetland
Research & Management. He has worked in the UK, Papua New Guinea,
Indonesia and Australia, specialising in the ecology and management
of tropical and temperate rivers and wetlands. He has 25 years experience
in aquatic ecology and sits on a range of committees, all of which
work towards the sustainable use of our aquatic resources.
Dr Storey is a member of various scientific advisory panels, including:
Ord River Scientific Panel, WWF Northern Australian Rivers Project
Steering Committee; W.A. Threatened Ecological Communities Scientific
Panel, W.A. Freshwater Fish and Environment Reference Committee,
and Recovery Teams for Threatened Ecological Communities in Yanchep
and Margaret River Cave streams. He has authored over 80 project
reports and 35 scientific journal articles. Currently, Dr Storey
is joint coordinator of a course on River Restoration, and is guest
lecturer on Environmental Water Requirements at Edith Cowan University.
Over the last 10 years he has been actively involved in research
and consultancies on tropical freshwater (and marine) systems of
Australia and Papua New Guinea, in particular the Fly River in PNG
and rivers of the Kimberley region. His research in the Kimberley
has also involved linking ecological and indigenous cultural values
of river systems, with implications for the sustainable use of these
systems
In March 2005 Dr. Storey was instrumental in organising and coordinating
the Kununurra Cane Toad Forum along with Lee Scott-Virtue of Kimberley
Specialists. He facilitated the scientific forum, presented on potential
impacts of cane toads on aquatic systems, and designed programs
on how to monitor impacts of cane toads on aquatic fauna.
